Economist and Former Rector of Mendel University in Brno

Danuše Nerudová is an economist, professor, and former rector of Mendel University in Brno (2018–2022). Her professional work focuses primarily on taxes, pensions, and equal opportunities for women and men. Since 2018, she has chaired the Fair Pensions Commission, which presented a pension reform proposal with broad expert and political consensus. In April 2020, she co-founded the civic initiative KoroNERV-20 with other economists to assist politicians in addressing the economic and social impacts of the pandemic. She ran in the 2023 presidential election, finishing in third place and receiving the highest support for a female candidate in history. Political scientists praised her modern campaign with several innovative elements and her opening of essential topics (support for innovation, the importance of education, equal opportunities, improving life in the regions, and environmental protection) in public debate. In June 2024, she was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for the movement Mayors and Personalities for Europe. She and her husband Robert have two sons and live in Brno.
